“2011 Chow Down” Food Festival Powhatan on April 9

Powhatan County Fairgrounds Hosts
2nd annual Event Celebrating Local Food

Powhatan, VA –The second annual Chow Down in Powhatan Food Festival, Saturday, April 9, 2011 continues
to entertain visitors. The Chow Down in Powhatan will be on Saturday, April 9th from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the
Powhatan County Fairgrounds, located at 4042 Anderson Highway. General admission is free and so is
parking. The festival will also serve as the kick-off event for Restaurant Week beginning April 10-16. During
this week, local restaurant will offer discounts and specials to customers.

This year’s festival will mark a special day of Food and music to battle against hunger through our “Hungry
to Help” food bank drive for the Central VA Food Bank. The event will offer something for the entire family,
including a kid’s zone with inflatables, face painting, over 10 bands performing on 2 stages and a tailgating
area so the guys can relax and enjoy the car, truck and motorcycles show.

“It's a perfect way to blend a good cause with a good time,” says Festival Director, Runda Harris. “We know
what a great service the Central Virginia Food Bank provides for our community, but we really want to help
increase awareness of what they do and give the community a chance to get involved.” In 2010 the Chow
Down festival goers provided over 2,000 meals to hungry families. The 2011 goal is to provide 5,000 meals to
families.

The outdoor festival will serve up a variety of cuisine from to 20 culinary establishments and numerous
crafters, artisans and exhibitors, transforming the fairgrounds into bustling marketplace where vendors will
be displaying a wide assortment of jewelry, clothing, kitchen, food & wine accessories, and home décor. The
event will highlight a variety of the region’s diverse restaurants, caterers, and street vendors, with diverse
offerings such as BBQ, gourmet, soul food, seafood, and vegetarian.

Event attendees will also have the opportunity to take part in a food drive campaign to help alleviate hunger.
Festival goers who bring non-perishable items for the “Hungry to Help” campaign will be entered in a raffle
for a chance to win a prize. The food donation will benefit the Central VA Food Bank and local pantry.
“If you’re looking for something to do to enjoy the spring season, then you’re invited to be a part of this
festival. There is something for everyone” says Harris. “Bring your family and a lawn blanket to enjoy the
good music and food. It’s all for a good cause …helping the hungry.”
